Now usually, restaurants will offer up a prix fixe menu during Restaurant Week - three or four choices and you better make it count! Lia’s in Chevy Chase gives you the option to order ANY app, entree, and dessert for $40pp. Every dish was fantastic. We ordered the desserts based on the speed at which neighboring tables inhaled theirs 🤣

Got to check out Fraîche last night, and I enjoyed myself! 👏🏽 The graffiti-covered walls and perfect playlist made for a unique, cute little vibe. TBH, you can still kinda smell the fresh paint - it’s that new! RIP Creole on 14th lol.

The cocktails? Eclectic and creative. The Fraîche Old Fash was a smoother, sweeter take on the classic, thanks to the butter whiskey rum and honey. The Andouille Agave had heat (maybe a little too much 👀), but I really wanted to taste the juiced bell pepper the waiter raved about.

I almost went for the So Fraîche, So Clean (because caviar, duh), but I hesitated on the crème fraîche.. made me a little nervous. Maybe next time!

The food? A mix of bold flavors and classics done right. The oxtail meatballs alone are worth a return trip - tender, flavorful, and that stew sauce?? 10/10, no notes. 🔥 The she-crab soup was solid, packed with plenty of lump crab and a nice hot sauce drizzle. The snapper was fried to perfection, and I didn’t hate the mumbo sauce pairing. Rice and peas? Eh… they ain’t momma’s! 😅

Was I adventurous with the deviled eggs? Yes. Would I order them again? Probably not.. but Toni enjoyed them, so don’t take my word for it 🤭

All in all, Fraîche is truly a fresh take on the dining scene (I love a good pun) - they’re pushing the envelope in a way that feels intentional and exciting, and I know I’ll be back. 🍓🍫 we got dubai at home! 🗣️ tried dubai chocolate for the first time on nye, and miss mamas has been running thru my mind SINCE. will i be spending valentine’s day elbows deep in these chocolate strawberries? 100%.

pls note: i measured nothing and devoured everything.

- toast about a handful of kadayif on medium heat with butter, until golden.
- melt some semi-sweet chocolate over a double boiler.
- mix pistachio cream w/ toasted kadayif (+ tahini.. optional).
- dice fresh strawberries.
- layer in cup or bowl w/ chocolate and pistachio mix.
- top w/ crushed pistachios (optional but recommended).

i did drive all the way to a market in rockville to find that kadayif. stopped at costco on the way home for the pistachio cream. no regrets! 🤣🙌🏾 #dubaichocolate

Is this a book review or are we here for food? 😂📖👩🏾‍🍳 Not sure where one ends and the other begins. I 𝐃𝐎 know this is was easily the best book i’ve read in a very long time. In other words.. 𝐼 𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑒𝑑 𝑖𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛 𝑎 𝑑𝑎𝑦.

Black Cake explores Caribbean heritage and identity, and surrounds its title object: a cake that stood the test of time (𝟏𝟐/𝟏𝟎 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲/𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐚). Ironically enough, it reminded me of my own generational fave.

Carrot cake.
As seen on birthdays. Holidays. Any given Sunday.

Special enough to have been passed down three generations.

Special enough that a written recipe simply does not exist.

Special enough that, no matter what else is on the menu, there 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋 be cake in the oven.

Of all the things I’ve learned to make, this means the most. And while I can’t share the recipe without fear of exile, I’d be happy to make it for you.

If I’m eating somewhere new, I’m almost always asking the waiter or waitress what they’d recommend off of the menu. Our waitress was insanely informative, and pretty much sold us on everything 😂🫶🏾

Feeling adventurous, this question led to me trying steak tartare for the first time. @themajesticva does such a good job of seasoning their beef and pairing it with different textures, I didn’t even think twice about going in for a first (and second.. third) bite!

We also indulged in some monkey bread, which was to die for! The steak to my steak and eggs was a perfect medium - I honestly could’ve eaten a plate of that alone.

Naturally, we came for mimosas, but ended brunch with a few hot toddies - it was brisk that day! Fair warning - do not neglect the honey and dipper stick they give you.. those drinks are strong!

Moral of the story: date your friends, and dine at The Majestic!
